AMHO 2024 Pre-Budget Submission

2nd Feb 2024 AMHO News

We are pleased to share the AMHO 2024 pre-budget submission. This year’s submission builds on last year’s 5% base increase for the sector, and asks for further stabilization through targeted investments in health human resources, operational budget increases and supportive housing.

The AMHO 2024 Budget Asks:

1. AMHO is calling on the Ontario government to invest $115 million in the community mental health and addictions workforce to address wage parity gaps, and for the implementation of a long-term Health Human Resources Strategy, inclusive of the mental health and addictions sector, to address increasing turnover and vacancy rates.

2. AMHO is calling for an $85 million investment to address operational shortfalls, stabilize services, and support community mental health and addictions providers.

3. AMHO is asking for the construction and operation of 40,000 new supportive housing units over 10 years. This equates to an annual investment of approximately $1 billion in capital costs from the federal and provincial governments; and an additional $100 million per year from the provincial government for the operation, upkeep, and staffing of supportive housing and wraparound services.

AMHO would like to once again thank everyone who took part in helping inform our pre-budget submission. The feedback we received from our membership via our annual member survey, Board of Directors, community partners, and newly formed PWLLE Advisory Panel provided valuable input in shaping our submission asks.

This year’s theme, “It’s Time To Act” focuses on the urgent challenges in our sector, and the need for immediate government intervention.

If you have any questions related to our pre-budget asks and/or activities, please contact David Turnbull, AMHO Manager of Public Affairs @ David.turnbull@amho.ca.
