Yesterday, Premier Doug Ford shuffled his cabinet and appointed a minister dedicated to addressing mental health and addictions, the Hon. Michael Tibollo.

“We welcome the creation of the new role of Associate Minister for the mental health and addictions file. This is a positive sign of this government’s recognition of the importance of mental health and addiction services in the province and an indication that Addictions and Mental Health Ontario’s advocacy work – alongside that of our members, other mental health and addiction organizations, and all others who work to build awareness and reduce stigma in the mental health and addiction space – is having a real, positive impact for Ontarians,” said Adrienne Spafford, CEO of Addictions and Mental Health Ontario.

Year after year, Ontario is facing more overdoses, more emergency department visits related to mental health and addiction challenges, and a growing reliance on emergency services amid growing waitlists for mental health and addiction services.

We believe that by making strategic investments in community supports and services, we can reduce wait times, end hallway healthcare, and improve access to services for youth.

“Addictions and Mental Health Ontario looks forward to working with the Hon. Michael Tibollo, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and continuing to work with the Hon. Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health as this government works to invest $3.8 billion in addiction and mental health services over the next 10 years,” said Adrienne Spafford.
