NORTH BAY – As part of Recovery Month, Addictions and Mental Health Ontario (AMHO) today was proud to welcome Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott; Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade Vic Fedeli; Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo; and MPP Natalia Kusendova to the North Bay Recovery Home.

Approximately 22% of Canadians will be affected by addiction in their lifetime. Recovery Month is an opportunity to share stories of personal triumphs and growth, talk about treatment options and individual goals, and work together to break down the stigma that surrounds addiction. Today, the ministers met with staff, community members and people with lived experience to discuss the importance of improving access to addiction treatment and support.  The Ontario Government has already committed to invest $3.8 billion in mental health, addictions and supportive housing programs.

“Recovery Month is about building awareness, challenging stigma, and celebrating the role that recovery plays in improving lives of individuals and families.  We’re thrilled the Ontario government is joining us in recognizing the importance of this month. Addictions and Mental Health Ontario members look forward to working with the government to make an even bigger difference for people on their recovery journey,” said Adrienne Spafford, CEO of Addictions and Mental Health Ontario.

The North Bay Recovery Home is a long-term residential treatment facility for people aged 16 and over with alcohol and/or drug dependencies seeking assistance on their journey towards recovery. The facility opened its doors in North Bay in 1969 and has been serving the community ever since.

Recovery Month is an opportunity for Ontarians to share stories, talk about treatment options and help break down the stigma surrounding addiction. Although the road to recovery can look different for everyone, it is important to continue to speak openly about addiction so those struggling know they’re not alone.
