Addictions and Mental Health Ontario (AMHO) releases 2023-2027 Strategic Plan

4th Jul 2023 AMHO News

AMHO’s four-year plan focuses on mobilizing the sector, advocating for system transformation and serving our members and the Ontarians in their care.

July 4, 2023 (Toronto, ON) – Addictions and Mental Health Ontario (AMHO) launches its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan to focus its effort on creating an addictions and mental health system that provides profound support for those in need.

“Our 2023-2027 Strategic Plan reflects the growing public interest in ensuring timely, equitable, high quality, and inter-connected mental health and addictions services that address the escalating needs of the population,” said Nancy Chamberlain, AMHO’s Chair, Board of Directors.

The plan is rooted in the input of our diverse membership, staff, individuals with lived and living experience, families, caregivers, partners, and system leaders. AMHO’s eight-month consultation with staff, members, and key system stakeholders revealed that the association needs to be focused on tackling major system performance issues and using its voice to drive genuine impact and meaningful change. The strategic plan commits to advance AMHO’s crucial mission in three key areas: Mobilize, Advocate, and Serve.

“By pushing for change in all three areas, we can drive the system-level change that our members and the public needs and deserves.” said Alisha Tharani, Chief Executive Officer of AMHO.

A Member-Driven Process
As a member-driven organization, AMHO’s Strategic Plan was developed through direct input from our members, and a broad environmental scan.

These discussions led to the development of three Strategic Directions:

  • Mobilize—Mobilize aims to drive high performance in the sector
  • Advocate—Advocate for system transformation and equitable investment
  • Serve—Serve our members and their communities

Activity in each of these three strategic areas is mutually reinforcing.  By pushing for change in all three areas, we can drive the system-level change that our members and the public needs and deserves.

We would like to thank all our members and partners who participated in the process to develop this strategic plan. As AMHO looks to fulfill our mission to lead change that will revolutionize the addiction and mental health care experience for people in Ontario, this renewed strategic plan will continue to provide guidance.
