E-QIP delivers training sessions for change ideas generation

The Excellence Through Quality Improvement Project (E-QIP) coaches were out in Toronto and Sudbury on Jan. 24 and 26 to help participants generate change ideas and measure the impact of quality improvement efforts.

The training was for community mental health and addictions agencies receiving coaching support from E-QIP. The events provided a learning experience for more than 50 people and, between the two sessions, E-QIP engaged 22 community mental health and addictions organizations from across Ontario.

This past fall, agencies receiving project support from E-QIP worked hard to define a specific issue where staff and clients see a great need for improvement. Project teams have been working with E-QIP coaches and applying diagnostic tools with the purpose of developing an aim statement that will drive their QI work. The teams came together this week to learn how to generate creative and sustainable change ideas that will improve the identified issue of focus.

Participants learned how to apply change idea tools that when used well, encourage staff to generate ideas outside of their comfort zone and can lead to unique an effective improvements. The team members at the training sessions were provided with the skills to help them work with their own staff, clients and partners to come up with new ways of addressing their aim statement.

The training program then informed participants on how to test and measure their new ideas to ensure implementing the changes are leading to service and program improvements. Over the next two months, the E-QIP teams will be working with their QI and data coaches to test their change ideas within their organizations.
