Submission to the Task Force on Marijuana Legalization and Regulation
August 31, 2016

Members of the Task Force on Marijuana Legalization leading the August 30 round table in Toronto
The Government of Canada is committed to legalizing marijuana. Yet many questions remain about how marijuana will be produced, distributed and regulated – and how marijuana-related problems can be addressed. The Government established a task force to address these issues. The task force will be reporting to the Government in November 2016.
In both a written submission to the task force and a roundtable discussion, AMHO emphasized that drug policy must be – above all – a health issue. Legal marijuana will result in new revenue for provincial and federal governments. AMHO’s message to the task force was that revenue from the sale and distribution of marijuana should be allocated to increase the capacity of addiction and mental illness prevention and treatment programs.
